Midoun, Aghir, Tezdaine, Houmt Souk: Which Area to Choose in Djerba?
Local life, calm or town atmosphere: how to choose between Midoun, Aghir, Tezdaine and Houmt Souk according to your project.

Djerba is a small island, but its areas do not all have the same atmosphere. Whether you rent a villa or buy a property, the choice of area shapes your daily life: distance to the beaches, shops nearby, quiet or activity. Here is an overview of the four most sought-after areas around our agency, based in Midoun.
Djerba in brief: one island, several atmospheres
Djerba lies in south-eastern Tunisia, linked to the mainland by a causeway and served by an international airport. Getting around by car is easy. The island combines villages and scattered homes among palm and olive trees, a coastline with beautiful beaches, a tourist zone in the east and a main town, Houmt Souk, in the north. The areas below are the most requested for our rentals and sales.
Midoun: local life and proximity to the beaches
Midoun is one of the island's main centres. You will find shops, restaurants, a market and everyday services, and the area is close to the tourist zone and the beaches of the east.
Who is it for? For those who like to have everything within reach: shopping, cafés, pharmacies, banks and offices. It is also an excellent base for discovering the island. The surroundings of Midoun also offer villas with gardens in a calmer setting.
Good to know: the centre is lively, especially in season; if you want silence, look at the neighbouring areas.
Tezdaine and Aghir: calm, gardens and villas
Tezdaine and Aghir are residential areas of the Midoun region, made up of villas, houses and plots, often surrounded by gardens. The setting is peaceful, with the possibility of having your own pool and some space.
Who is it for? For families seeking rest, retirees, and travellers who want a quiet villa while staying a few minutes by car from the centre of Midoun and the beaches.
Good to know: these areas are more spread out and quieter: a car is essential, and it is useful to check the access road to the villa or plot.
Looking for a property in one of these areas? See our listings in Tezdaine and Aghir.
Houmt Souk: the main town, the souk and the harbour
Houmt Souk is the island's main town. It has the souk and its alleys, the harbour, fish restaurants, administrative offices and a more urban cultural life.
Who is it for? For those who like the atmosphere of a real town, the proximity of offices and services, and an active daily life all year round.
Good to know: it is a more urban setting, with denser traffic; for seaside swimming, the beaches are a few kilometres away.

To buy a villa or land
Visit several areas and compare. For land, the area determines access, utilities and building possibilities: read our guide to buying land in Djerba. For a villa, our buyer's guide takes you step by step.
For a rental investment
Choose a property close to the beaches and amenities, with a pool if you aim at holiday rentals. Our team can then take care of the rental management.
Our advice for choosing
- Visit at different times of the day and, if possible, in and out of season;
- Test the journeys to the beach, the shops and the airport;
- Ask residents what they think of the area;
- Do not rely only on the name of the area: two properties in the same area can have very different surroundings.
